In your lifestyle business, I’m sure that one of your goals is to become recognised as an authority in your niche?

When you attain a good level of recognition, you can charge premium prices, and you get to stop chasing clients down… instead your ideal clients are forming a queue to work with YOU!

There are many things you can do that will help elevate your authority, including;

  • Speaking from stage
  • Being an Author and having a book published
  • Effective use of social media
  • Media and TV exposure
  • Joint Venture Partnerships with other experts

But in today’s blog post, I want to talk about how you can increase the traffic to your website by writing great, strong blog posts.

More specifically… how you can drive a consistent stream of traffic to your posts when you add a sprinkle of negative headlines and a large dose of your opinion.

Negative headlines:.

Tests have shown that when your headline states the problem you are solving, more people are attracted to the post. This is contrary to lots of headlines which highlight the solution… or the end result.

So instead of having a headline;

“8 Killer Strategies For Writing Great Blogs”

You’d switch the headline around so it focuses on the PROBLEM… not the SOLUTION;

“8 Embarrassing Blogging Mistakes”

And for this blog post… instead of the headline being

“5 Steps To Getting Recognised As An Authority In your Niche”,

We went with;

“Why Being Introverted Won’t Get You Recognised As An Authority In Your Niche!”

Do you see?

It seems that people are more attracted to headlines that they feel relate to their experience of the topic. So, by aligning your headline with their limiting beliefs; in this case, feeling they aren’t writing great blog posts, or recognising that they are introverted… the headline talks to them and gets their attention.

But, a headline alone won’t suddenly elevate your authority…

When you think about all the “big names” in your industry, the people who are recognised as being an authority… they pretty much all have one thing in common.

They’re not people that blend into the background. They hold strong opinions, and are boldly sharing them with their world.

You have a message to share, right… and you have a duty… your life purpose is to make YOUR difference in the world? So… to make your difference, people need to hear your message. And when you’re out there sharing it boldly, you’re taking steps towards getting recognised as an authority in your niche.

If you’re introverted, and shy about sharing your message, how will you make your difference?

Here are my 6 steps to help you write your next opinion post;

Headline: How can you switch your headline to focus on the problem rather than the solution?

Research: even if you’re only going to write a short post, do your research first. Researching will also show you the general consensus of opinion on your topic that you can choose to contrast or reinforce in your own post.

Share your opinion: it’s your opinion after all… so as long as you make it clear in the post that it’s your opinion, go right ahead and share it. Stick to your niche topic, but having an alternate view to the majority will also get people talking about you.

Be credible: it’s a wise move to back up what you’re saying with some explanations that you gleaned through your research to prove that you are sharing your reasoned opinion. There will be people who disagree with you and a few who will have equally strong opposing feelings.

You can choose to enter into a healthy debate, or to ignore any contrasting comments. But overall, it is your opinion and your audience will start to value it.

Be topical: tapping into what is going on in the outside world right now will grab attention too… People will be interested because it is current and relevant. The level of interest will wane once it becomes “old news”.

But stick with what you know… make sure it is relevant to your area of expertise, and your topical, opinion piece will help Google to recognise your influence too.
